Our mission at STAHR is to provide short-term-after-hours rescue services to lost/found/displaced pets during the hours our local shelters do not or cannot operate. More specifically, our primary goal is to reunite pets with their people before they enter the shelter system. Since our startup in 2019, STAHR has fielded over 1900 calls from community members needing help with locating owners of pets found in Spokane County; and through the undertaking of social media campaigns and the provision of short-term fostering services, STAHR has reunited 65% of these lost pets with their people. Additionally, STAHR has assisted community members in caring for and/or reuniting the other 35% of those calls. As a result, STAHR and the community have been able to keep pets left to run loose from entering the shelter system, assisting in making their way straight home.
