HELPING PETS
I found a Pet
If person who finds or otherwise comes into possession of a lost or stray animal do the following:
Capture and contain it with care
Always approach stray animals slowly and cautiously while speaking in a calm, gentle voice. You can also use food to coax the animal into approaching you. Try not the scare or chase the animal when around traffic as this will sometimes result in the animal running into traffic and becoming injured. Secure the animal using a leash, a belt, or piece of rope can be used as a slip lead. Keep in mind that these items are not appropriate as a routine means of controlling a dog.
Check for ID or Microchip—Check the animal for forms of ID, such as tags, tattoos or a microchip. To see if an animal has a microchip, take the animal to Pet Emergency, contact a local veterinary office to see if they are able to scan the pet for a microchip or visit a STAHR community microchip scan station.
